THE SKIN: UPDATE
Full disclosure: I'm wearing black mascara, touche eclat under my eyes and clear lipgloss. Photo unretouched except for contrast.
The light was so lovely today, I didn't even feel the need to put on makeup, which is London is rare. One thing about going au naturel- you gotta have have good light.
I thought it would be a good time for a skincare recap with Spring coming and everything, because I haven't done one in a long time and I'm happy with what I've been doing lately. I've discovered a lot of new products all of which are working well for me.
OK so just to remind you, I have dry-ish skin, very sensitive, very fine and transparent. And I am breakout-prone but they are hormonal so I don't get them if I'm on the pill (which I am, precisely for that reason). I can't use anything with petrolatum (vaseline) because it gives me eczema. This is our starting point.
I always cleanse with Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse & Polish, morning and night. This product is a miracle, it was such a revelation when I discovered it, and I still recommend it to everyone. It leaves you so clean, so moisturized, it dissolves all of your makeup at the end of the day..it's amazing.
I'm not really a moisturizer kind of girl, I combine things depending on how I feel. After the morning shower, I'll usually put on either some drops of Skinceuticals Rextexturing Activator serum, or Elemis Celullar Recovery Skinbliss capsules oil. I prefer the finish of the Skinbliss, because the Retexturing has one of those textures that can be a bit shiny/sticky, but I go through phases and I've been using them both intermittently for ages. They both seem to really calm down and smooth out the skin. And neither of them are heavy.
Other face prep includes: Talika on my eyelashes, and Rapidbrow on my brows, both work miracles. I sometimes also apply eye cream (La Prarie Eye Contour) in the morning. I like eye cream, it feels really good and soothing, but I have the hardest time finding a good one that doesn't irritate me. I've been going back to La Prarie since I was like 19, it is rich but light kind of like a mousse. On my lips, I apply Lipfusion XL.
Before I do makeup (so just before i go out), I do one of the most important things: Moisturize, properly. I swear this makes the most difference of all for me. This time I'll use a proper moisturizer. Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream if I want something light and refreshing, or Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream if I need something heavier. Both are incredible products that don't irritate my skin and leave it looking wonderful and radiant by itself. I take my time to massage these in all over my face and neck.
A lot of the time once this is on, I don't feel like I have to wear foundation, and I use very little, and never to cover the skin, but to give it a warm tone/ peachy texture to tie up the makeup together. As you know I've been using Armani Maestro Fusion makeup that's like a dry oil, and pretty much disappears into nothing. I still think it's amazing and the best I've ever used. It's definitely a no-makeup look.
At night, after cleansing, I alternate between Skinceuticals Retinol 0.5% (3 times a week) and one of the following: Skinbliss capsules, Rextexturing Activator. I have also recently been trying out two products from La Prarie that I really really like: La Prarie White Caviar Illuminating Cream, and La Prarie Anti-Aging Stress Cream. Both of which were a gift so not something I would've chosen, but I thought I might as well use them since they're meant to be really really good. The White Caviar is the most intense for sure, and I only wish it wasn't so perfumey. It's a fabulous moisturizer, it truly smooths and illuminates over a few days. The Stress cream is similar, a bit lighter, and not so scented. I always like having a couple of intensive moisturizers around and not so many work for me, so I'm glad I have these.
My favourite face masks are still Sisley: The Flower mask and more recently also the Rose Mask, both are amazing when you feel really tired or after a night out. I usually do Rose before going out at night, and Flower in the morning when I wanna freshen up because it's quicker. But only on occasion, so they last me for ever.
Hope this was an interesting read and it gave you some ideas! xxx
