JANE BIRKIN @ THE BARBICAN
When my friend said she had tickets to see Jane Birkin live I could hardly believe it; I did not know she was touring. I did not know she was still singing! I had no idea she was now a professional musician, since 1999. And oh my god, she is everything I imagined and more. She is vibrant, she is so full of life, and so heartfelt and sincere and free...She's hilarious and she's humble and amazing. She deserves the iconic status she has earned. If only I could have a fraction of the life she has in her bones.
She was of course barefoot in her silky red negligee. She could be 20 by the way she moves, and sounds.
Her compositor/violinist was simply mind blowing.
I decided to make it a thematic look for tonight, full on sixties in all my favourite gear.
I did my hair with Cloud Nine The Wand, which, after causing me third degree burns on my arms the first few times I used it, and almost returning it after that, is now working quite well for me and is actually quite fun to use. I still think it's stupidly long. What's up with all the warnings not to burn your hands? It's easy not to touch it with your hands, I'm not an idiot, plus you have a glove. But what about your arms? It's so long, it reaches my freaking elbow when I'm wrapping the hair around it. I have to be SO careful that a) it doesn't burn my arms and b) that the hair doesn't slip right off. I'm just wearing a long-sleeve sweater now, less drama.
I wore a soft 60s makeup with lashes and nude lips. It's very glamour, my favourite!
Base: Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, Giorgio Armani Maestro fusion foundation Cheeks: Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar highlighter/bronzing thing Eyes: Charlotte Tilbury Sophisticate palette, and Chanel Epatante silvery mousse eyeshadow on the moving lid. Mascara is by Charlotte Tilbury. False lashes (just half): MAC Drawn lashes on the bottom, which look surprisingly real! I love drawing big bottom lashes, it's one of my things that I do when going for dramatic makeup. Lips: Tom Ford Blush Nude, with lipliner Medium from Kevyn Aucoin It's a very flattering sort of makeup on me, i love it. It's certainly the sexiest.
Little update on Charlotte's products: I am still really enjoying everything I got, it's so effortless, beautiful and works so well, they are the kind of products that you reach for when you need something quick that works. The Magic Cream in particular has been a constant every day, ever since I got it, to prep my skin for makeup. It makes such a huge difference to wake up the skin and make it radiant. I hardly need any foundation over it. Literally, some days I do my makeup and then at the end I remember I've completely forgot the foundation! The Filmstar- I still think it's one of the best bronzer/perfecting cheek-color products out there. I use it as a contour/blush/highlighter, often by itself. And the eye shadows I've been using every time I go out. So yea super happy with it all. I popped by to see the girls at Selfridges again the other day, they still have my business card : ) which was cute.
