I was browsing through a Vanity Fair today with Emma Stone on the cover, and it prompted "Since when is Emma Stone a blonde??". After some research it turns out her natural color is dark blonde, but as far as I know she's made her name as a brunette, and it got me thinking about how, as soon as somebody becomes somebody, or is set to become one, the industry turns them blonde overnight. I don't know if this Emma's case, i don't follow her closely, but that was my train of thought. And hey, not only blonde, but always the same premeditated shade of light blonde with surfer waves. The "celebrity" look. They ALL LOOK THE SAME! Dear managers, PRs and agents, shame on you.
I've selected a few photos of people who did the "blonde overnight" thing and it looks like it's the result of a team of stylists, versus people who do their own thing. I have no idea whether the examples I've chosen are actually the consequence of contractual agreements, but that's what it appears. (and in this industry, what appears, is important enough).
I am a fan of all these women, by the way.
SUDDEN BLONDE
Victoria's Secret is full of examples of so-so girls turned into blonde bombshells. Usually always a big improvement with these, although it turns them all into clones:
Way prettier as a blonde, but that might be better makeup aswell
Emma is a striking brunette.
Very pretty as a blonde but it could be anyone.
I think Ellie loses herself in the blonde. Monday she's a folky singer songwriter, Tuesday she's a hip blondie over electronica beats. She'll grow into it I'm sure because she's a clever girl, but that was just wrong.
Not a particularly big fan of Diana Vickers but I think her voice is lovely. EDIT 11:40am : I correct the photo, a reader notified me that it was wrong. She was always a blonde, so this is only a case of a makeover. First she was a girl

Now she looks like a totally fabricated Chinawhites PR:
Often she just looks like she's in costume! And not in a good way.
To me, they're sending me a message that they don't have a personality, that the only thing they can be is someone else. And that the only way they're gonna sell is by bleaching their hair.
VERSUS
I admire Lindsay's image changes. They are obviously the product of her fancies, and she never looks like she's been pressured to look that way, she pulls it off magnificently, even when it looks unflattering.
Jessica Stam never looks like a real blonde (even though she is?) but she always looks fabulous.
Laetitia Casta is another gorgeous brunette-blonde. She goes through stages and she never looks like someone's puppet.

I'll try not to sound like a Natalia groupie (NATALIA I LOVE YOU!) but the few times she's gone for a subtle dark blonde it has looked great, you couldn't tell. I admire Natalia's hair, I never fail to take it to new hairdressers. It always looks healthy, natural and simple.

I have the impression that now the media wants brunettes since the Kim Kardashian craze, to look more “exotic”…so now even blondes become brunettes haha
I always noticed this too, and in a way I think it sends young people the wrong idea, I mean, they give you the idea that ONLY platinum blondes are beautiful. I loved Emma as a brunette she looked better like that even, I was kind of angry when I saw her blonde…
Yea! it dilutes people.
